The Pittsburgh Chapter of Days for Girls is honored and thrilled to be a collection point for kits and components for the Lebanon Emergency Response Project.
There are many ways you can help us!
Make a monetary donation to The Pittsburgh Chapter or to Days for Girls International or purchase needed materials from amazon wish list or a JoAnn Fabric Gift Card, and arrange for a safe drop off. Wish list items can be shipped directly to Third Church.
If you are a member of a DFG chapter or team, please check your email for specific details. We are thrilled to accept your best work for these women and girls. Remember quality control is an outward sign of our love for our neighbors. Quality Control as Love for Neighbor was written during the last Days for Girls International Project and I am reading it again to remind myself to do my best work… quickly! You can read more about that project here.
Remember we need to receive all donations for this project by August 21st to make our shipping deadline. Any materials that are received after that date or end up being surplus (because I know you are generous) will be used in other Days for Girls projects this year. This isn’t the only project we have in the works after all….
Here is some of the official information from Days for Girls:
Lebanon Emergency Response Project
Once again, the opportunity has opened up for Days for Girls to respond to the needs of women and girls in a BIG way! This notice is to announce our Lebanon Emergency Response Project that will begin immediately for interested US Chapters and Teams!
Lebanon Emergency Response
On August 4th 2020, 2 explosions at the port of Beirut, Lebanon killed more than 15o people, injured 5,000+, and displaced 300,000+. We just received word that our amazing Days for Girls leaders in Lebanon are safe and continue to be on the frontlines of the response, but this tragedy is not over and in typical DfG fashion, we are stepping up to respond and invite you to join us!
As many of you may already know, we have the honor and privilege of watching the amazing work of Lebanon Country Coordinator Khayrieh and the 3 Lebanon Enterprises reach Syrian refugees with DfG Kits and education. Now, with the devastating impact of the explosions coupled with the impacts of COVID-19 and the widespread inflation making many products, like feminine hygiene products, too expensive – DfG Lebanon is reporting increased scarcity and an urgent need for assistance.
What can you do to help?
Lebanon is in the Orange DfG Impact Zone. In line with this, the DfG Lebanon Leaders are taking the lead and we are listening and responding to their needs through collaboration on an urgent hybrid response. This response will be in partnership with international partner, Americares, and local partner, Anera.
There are two responses you can get involved in: The immediate response and the medium term response.
Immediate Response: Sponsor Kits made by the DfG Lebanon Enterprises
With your help – we can bring immediate comfort and dignity during this heartbreaking situation
We are calling on all Chapters and Teams to come together to support the response of the DfG Lebanon Enterprises who are working to provide emergency menstrual supplies to refugees and Lebanese women and girls during this challenging time.
Our Enterprises are on the ground and can reach women and girls immediately. We are raising $10,000 USD to sponsor 1000 Kits from the Lebanon Enterprises that they will distribute right away to those in need. Gifts of $5, $10, $15 add up to collective impact. This is the quickest way to get menstrual supplies into the hands of those who need them. As a global and caring community, we can help make this happen!

From our hearts, thank you so much for your contribution and belief in DfG Lebanon!
Medium-Term Response: Contribute your DfG Kits
Do you have DfG Kits or components ready to go? We need you!
The DfG Lebanon Enterprises and partners Americares and Anera, have described a tremendous need that will last beyond the immediate emergency and wish to work together with Chapters and Teams to meet those needs.
Many of you have asked us where you can send your Kits while we wait out this pandemic. This is the perfect way to direct your Kits or components to an area of extreme urgent need!
DfG Kits will be placed on the Emergency Americares shipment to Lebanon. Any additional Kits beyond what can fit on the Americares shipment, will be allocated to other countries where Americares works with partners who are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
What next?If you have Kits or components available, please send them to the Collection Points by August 21st 2020. Please take shipping time into consideration. We understand that this is a tight timeframe. This is due to the nature of the needs on the ground and the timing of when the shipment is due to leave the US with other medical supplies. If you’re unable to contribute Kits by the deadline, please consider donating funds and we will sponsor Kits on your behalf from the DfG Lebanon Enterprises. Win Win!
