Thank you to the DfG teams who sent components to the Pittsburgh Collection Point throughout the year. Because of your efforts and continued sewing we have been able to develop an incredible long-term partnership with Global Links.
Global Links and DfG have similar missions that include empowering local leaders and supporting communities with education and access to menstrual health kits. Global Links will train their medical staff and local leaders to distribute DfG menstrual health kits and education at their medical centers. Our Bolivia project with Global links wrapped up at the end of 2022. We in Pittsburgh are thrilled to continue working with this collaboration of partners.
In 2023, we are counting on your continued support to assemble 10,000 kits for Cuba. We will be working with Global Links to send shipments throughout the coming year, so any time you have components ready, send them our way. In the pictures below, you will notice we switched to a smaller box size to better suit the needs of our partners.
We would also love to have teams visit the collection point to support the effort. Individuals and other groups are welcome too. Please email us to coordinate a time when your team can visit and volunteer.
We got this project kicked off with Pittsburgh University’s day of service on January 16th. Pitt sent 50 participants that worked with our Pittsburgh team, the Pittsburgh North Team, the Oakdale PA team and the Pitt DfG Club. The Pitt DfG club talked up the event to other students so we had a full house! We packed 3,000 kits!!!
Here are the details for supporting the Pittsburgh Collection Point.
Days for Girls Teams: We need standard and heavy flow sewn components for this project. When you send components, please send everything flat, meaning don’t fold liners or snap shields. This makes our checking process move much faster and every minute counts with this quick turnaround. If you choose to send care and use cards, send them in Spanish. Thank you to everyone who has been sending components year-round! Your efforts have helped us continue to be prepared for emergencies or quick turnaround projects like this one.
Days for Girls International website has a spot where you can get the latest up-dates and needs from each collection point. Check it out here.
