Grove City Days for Girls Team April 2026

Days for Girls works to eliminate the stigma and limitations associated with menstruation so that women and girls have improved health, education and livelihoods. To date, we have reached over 3.5 million women and girls with our life-changing menstrual health solutions.

Each standard Days for Girls washable kit includes: 2 waterproof shields, 8 liners, 2 panties, 1 carry pouch, a 100% cotton wash cloth, a small bar of soap, and an ovulation chart and directions, all packaged in a drawstring bag. Those are the things you can see. What you might not notice immediately is that those kits also contain: dignity, education, and independence.  These kits and their accompanying education can lift entire communities out of poverty.

To complete menstrual health kits we fundraise to purchase supplies.  You can send us monetary donations through: Grove City PA Team’s team fundraising page for Days for Girls International as well as sending needed items directly to us through our Grove City DfG Amazon wish list.

The other way to help us is to follow us on social media and share our posts: Days for Girls Grove City PA Team

On April 1st, we got to participate in a sustainable period products seminar at Slippery Rock University, hosted by The Macoskey Center, with a terrific group of students. Everyone attending received a DfG washable pad kit and a set of menstrual cups. We supplied the RockPantry+ and the Slippery Rock University Women’s Center with DfG kits and cups, disposables and our new ‘Smart Pack’ trial size pad kits.

Grove City PA Team members Karie Charlton and Ruth Magee did a Days for Girls presentation at Slippery Rock University, which has over 8,000 students attending.  Our partners for this Sustainable Period Products presentation were the Macoskey Center (the University’s Environmental Education center), the University Women’s Center, the RockPantry+ (the student food/hygiene pantry) and the University’s peer educators. We did the part of the presentation about the menstrual cycle and about using our pad kit and the menstrual cups.

Each student attending received a DfG hybrid kit, which has all the components and included laundry instructions but no underwear.  This is what we refer to as our ‘local’ kit.  They also received a menstrual cup.  They enjoyed picking out the kit that’s drawstring bag was most appealing to them.

We were told the event would cap at 40 students.  We planned for generosity and prepared enough kits to cover that as well as a few extras so we could offer them to the other presenters and let students take a few for roommates or friends who were unable to attend.  Nearly everyone took us up on that offer.

With 15 students in attendance, we were able to engage with them more directly, taking time to answer every question they had.  They were especially interested in menstrual cups.  We gave out a few business cards so that students who were a little nervous could contact us if they had additional questions.  For us, this was not a “one and done” event but the start of building relationships with the University so that we can continue to supply them with menstrual health products in the future.

We had planned to leave donations with the Women’s Center and the Rock Pantry while we were on campus.  We knew they needed disposables and we offered to give them “Smart Packs” too.  Smart packs consist of a shield, 4 liners, a trifold, care card and laundry instructions, with a label that tells students where they can get the full hybrid kit.

We had an information table at the event as well, and hope that some students will want to plan to volunteer.  We look forward to participating in this event again next year.  It inspired us to begin to plan a similar event at our own facility.

April 7th: Sew ‘n Sew Quilt group – Mary did a presentation about DfG and distributed 9 smart packs. We are also hoping to recruit some sewing volunteers from this group.

April 16th: Grove City High School Global Scholars and Interact

The Thursday workshop was still going on while Karie and Ruth went to Grove City Area School District’s GCHS Global Scholars and Interact meeting— our favorite thing to do! We talked to the students about needing their input to help us reach young people with sustainable DfG kits and then everyone got to work. It’s probably our last time with these students this year, and we let them know, especially the graduating seniors, how much their help means to us. And a big shoutout to club advisor Karyn Senita who makes this collaboration possible.

April 17th: Ruth and Mary attended the United Way Annual Luncheon and received $13,000.00!

April 18th: Ruth and Cindy gave an “All about Periods” talk at the Library and distributed kits, menstrual cups, and disposable products. They left a basket of Smart Packs for the library’s little food pantry. Another basket of Smart Packs was left in the restroom along with disposables, kits and cups. The Grove City team works with the library to keep these products in their building year round.

April 19th: Period Sermon at Crafton Heights United Presbyterian Church. Karie donates her preaching fee for the period sermon to DfG, so we always get a little donation when she preaches. We are also hoping the connections made here will result in volunteers for the Pittsburgh area teams and maybe a partnership for distributions.

April 24th: Ann and Mary attended Healthy KidsYMCA. Ann is a retired teacher. She is great with young girls who have had their first period or know that their first period is coming soon.

Also in April, the Mercer County Career Center students in the Service Occupations class cleaned our DfG cottage. We thanked them with goodie bags and Smart Packs.

Perviously in 2026:

Grove City Days for Girls Team March 2026 This post includes the history of the Grove City PA DfG team, which began in 2016. In 2023, the team shared a building with the PA Collection Point from until it closed in 2026.

The Grief of Closing a Ministry and the Grace that Follows A theological reflection on closing the PA Collection Point

Collection Point Closes and Volunteers join other sewing teams (February 2026) This post includes the history of the PA Collection Point. The Pittsburgh PA DfG team began in 2015 and expanded to become the PA Collection Point in 2018. In 2022, the Collection Point and Pittsburgh team had to find a new building which led to them separating in 2023, at which time the PA Collection Point moved to Grove City while the sewing team stayed in Pittsburgh.
