Days for Girls works to eliminate the stigma and limitations associated with menstruation so that women and girls have improved health, education and livelihoods. To date, we have reached over 3.5 million women and girls with our life-changing menstrual health solutions.
Each standard Days for Girls washable kit includes: 2 waterproof shields, 8 liners, 2 panties, 1 carry pouch, a 100% cotton wash cloth, a small bar of soap, and an ovulation chart and directions, all packaged in a drawstring bag. Those are the things you can see. What you might not notice immediately is that those kits also contain: dignity, education, and independence. These kits and their accompanying education can lift entire communities out of poverty.

Ruth and Mary attended the George Junior Republic Luncheon to celebrate the on campus chapel being designated as a historical landmark. Prior to the luncheon, our team altered the gold cloth so that it covered the new plaque until it was time for the big reveal. While Ruth and Mary were at the luncheon, they made connections with other organizations that use the GJR campus and/or are connected in their missions. We hope that these connections become opportunities for us to distribute kits, cups, and disposables in the future. Also, a caterer needed a tampon and fast, DfG to the rescue!
Ruth and Mary hosted women from Trinity Community Church for their “Learn, Eat, and Work” event. They learned about DfG, had lunch, and volunteered their time working on liners. They also made a generous donation. Thank you!
Karie and Karen went to Grove City Area High School to work with the Global Scholars and Interact clubs. They helped us put snaps on shields and trace liners. We also distributed several menstrual cups and answered questions about their usage. The school took pictures but hasn’t posted yet. Keep watching our facebook page for when we are able to share them.
Lilly is part of this group of students too. We are thrilled that Lilly volunteers with Grove City DfG. Check out all of the other volunteer work she does at Lilly’s Pageant Page. She is a role model and we are “sew”proud of her.
A moment of personal reflection
September seems to be a month of changes for DfG. In September of 2023, we started the process of looking for a new place to meet. It was scary but we made it work. Last year, we had what was supposed to be a big conference that had to be canceled because of low sign up, we made the best of it, but it was clear that change was in the air for DfGI that we could feel but didn’t understand the full picture. Our collection point closed in February. What this year will hold still remains to be seen, but clearly change is on the way again for DfGI. Check out the new logos at the bottom of the post. I think the rebranding is signaling other changes still to come. We will wait and see. For now, our Grove City team is focusing on our local community and distributing washable pads, cups, and disposables to our neighbors.
Partnership with the Mercer County Food Bank for the 2026-2027 School Year
The Mercer County Food Bank and Grove City Days for Girls are partnering this year to make DfG kits available at every student food pantry in the county. We hope, with your help, we can supply them with kits and cups.
Grove City DfG team representatives, Christine Opitz and Ruth Magee met with Bailey Shepherd, Strategic Partnerships and Programs Manager at the Mercer County Food Bank, to see how we can better support Mercer County Schools. Baily reported that are 10,000 students in our county’s school districts and 7000 of them accessed a student food pantry last year. These students will also benefit from having access to sustainable menstrual products and education, especially since far more girls than boys access their school’s pantries.
Before the start of each school year, Bailey meets with the school district representatives who coordinate their school’s pantry. At this year’s meeting, district representatives saw a video about our kits. In turn, at the beginning of the school year, each district must provide the student body with education about the school food pantry and students take a tour of their school’s pantry. Students will view the DfG video at the same time they learn more about the food pantry at their school.
The Food Bank is asking for 4,000 kits over the course of the coming school year. The first shipment of 1,200 kits and 300 cups was distributed on August 20th. We will supply more kits to replenish the supply every 6-8 weeks.

Collection Point Closes and Volunteers join other sewing teams (February 2026) This post includes the history of the PA Collection Point. The Pittsburgh PA DfG team began in 2015 and expanded to become the PA Collection Point in 2018. In 2022, the Collection Point and Pittsburgh team had to find a new building which led to them separating in 2023, at which time the PA Collection Point moved to Grove City while the sewing team stayed in Pittsburgh.
